The Buchanan County Health Center Auxiliary is offering six $1,200 scholarships in 2024 to assist those pursuing a career in the human health care field.

  • Three $1,200 scholarships are available for high school seniors at East Buchanan, Independence, and Jesup High Schools. The application process is through the Scholarship Committees at each of the Buchanan County high schools. High School students should not fill out this application.
  • Three $1,200 scholarships for those pursuing a degree in a human health care field who meet the following requirements:
    • A non-traditional student (did not attend college immediately after high school and/or is returning to school to earn a degree or professional certificate) OR
    • A traditional student attending a higher education institution and entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year or graduate school.
      • Eligibility
        • Applicants musts:
          • Be accepted into an institution of higher learning with the objective of entering a human healthcare field recognized by members of the Buchanan County Health Center Auxiliary
          • Fulfill one of the following:
            • Be a resident of Buchanan County
            • Work in Buchanan County in a human health care field
            • Have a zip code from a town / city that is within Buchanan County
            • Have a zip code of 50662 (Oelwein)
            • Special consideration may be given to those working at Buchanan County Health Center or its clinics.

  • A high school transcript or a transcript of the most recent grades and SAT or ACT composite scores (if available) should accompany the application.
  • Descriptive paper that includes ways applicant has been involved in the community, and reasons why he/she should be considered for this scholarship.

Selection for the BCHC Auxiliary Scholarship

  • A committee of members of the Buchanan County Health Center Auxiliary will review the non-traditional applications.
  • The committee is not required to award the scholarship(s) if applicants do not meet criteria.
  • The scholarship recipients will be invited to attend the Auxiliary’s annual Scholarship dinner held in June
  • Letter of Recommendation from one or more non-family member(s). Examples of appropriate source(s):
    • Professor
    • Employer
    • Community Member
