Pelvic Floor Therapy
Pelvic floor physical therapy is specialized physical therapy for people who have pelvic floor dysfunction. Your pelvic floor muscles are a hammock of muscles at the bottom of your pelvis that are responsible for several key functions including bowel and bladder function, postural and organ support, and support sexual and reproductive health. When your pelvic floor muscles and other associated structures are not functioning optimally, problems can arise.
Many people may assume that pelvic floor problems are a normal part of childbirth or aging, but there is actually much that can be done to improve these symptoms with PT.
An evaluation with a pelvic floor PT can play a vital role as this helps determine the involvement of the musculoskeletal components and can assist patients in determining their best course of action to get the fastest results in treatment.
