BCHC Awards Dan McElory, LISW, with The Sunshine Award for Extraordinary Staff
Dan McElroy, LISW, a mental health counselor at Buchanan County Health Center, was recently recognized with the BCHC Sunshine Award for Extraordinary Staff. Modeled after The DAISY Award, the Sunshine Award celebrates employees who exemplify the BCHC mission and are known for their compassion, care, and dedication to others.
Selected through a nomination and evaluation process conducted by BCHC’s Sunshine Award Committee, Dan was recognized for his outstanding contributions to his patients. As BCHC’s first Sunshine Award recipient, Dan’s nomination highlighted the difference he had made in the lives of his patients:
“Dan has helped me tremendously in my healing journey. When I first met Dan, I was struggling with all life had thrown at me. My world felt like it was upside down. Dan provided a safe, comfortable, and respectful environment for me. It was exactly what I needed. I am much farther in my healing progress now, but they continue to offer fresh perspectives, empathetic listening, and regularly brings me new ideas to try. I appreciate that Dan challenges me to move out of my comfort zone to help me grow. Dan’s passion for helping people shines through every time I talk to Dan! BCHC is a more valuable place because Dan is part of your team.”
Established in late 2024 to complement The DAISY Award, which honors excellence in nursing, the Sunshine Award at BCHC was created to recognize the exceptional contributions of non-nursing staff. This award celebrates individuals who make a meaningful impact on patients, colleagues, and the community.
