BCHC Recognizes Jennifer Dettbarn with The Sunshine Award for Extraordinary Staff
Jennifer Dettbarn, carpenter with the Maintenance Department at Buchanan County Health Center, was recently recognized with the BCHC Sunshine Award for Extraordinary Staff. Modeled after The DAISY Award, the Sunshine Award celebrates employees who exemplify the BCHC mission and are known for their compassion, care, and dedication to others.
Selected through a nomination and evaluation process conducted by BCHC’s Sunshine Award Committee, Jennifer was recognized for her outstanding contributions to the organization, impacting patients, staff, and guests alike.
Jennifer’s nomination read:
“It is my great honor to nominate Jennifer, one of our hospital’s dedicated maintenance team members, for the Sunshine Award. Jennifer embodies the very spirit of this recognition as she brings a great deal of warmth, positivity, and unwavering commitment to our facility every day! From the moment you see Jennifer in the hallway, her warm smile and calm demeanor immediately brighten the environment. She goes far beyond the expectations of her role, always putting patients first. Whether she is kindly stopping to help someone find their way to an appointment or volunteering her time as a patient sitter in the Emergency Room, Jennifer makes sure that everyone’s needs are met.
On the maintenance side, Jennifer is a true cornerstone of our hospital. She is consistently here early in the morning and often late into the evening, always willing to adjust her schedule to meet the needs of patients and staff. If a repair needs to be done, she coordinates around surgery schedules and patient visits to ensure that the work is completed with minimal disruption. Her dedication often goes unseen, but she is the worker bee behind the scenes keeping our building safe, functional, and welcoming.
Jennifer’s actions reflect a deep sense of pride in her work and compassion for those around her. She quietly makes a tremendous impact supporting all of us who walk through BCHC halls. For these reasons and many more, I believe Jennifer is an outstanding candidate for the Sunshine Award. She deserves to be recognized for the countless ways she goes above and beyond every single day.”
Established in late 2024 to complement The DAISY Award, which honors excellence in nursing, the Sunshine Award at BCHC was created to recognize the exceptional contributions of non-nursing staff. This award celebrates individuals who make a meaningful impact on patients, colleagues, and the community.
