Buchanan County Health Center Auxiliary Awards $8,400 in Scholarships to Students Entering or Continuing Education in Healthcare
On June 6th, the Buchanan County Health Center Auxiliary held their annual scholarship presentation at the First Presbyterian Church in Independence. Each year, the BCHC Auxiliary awards scholarships in the amount of $1,000 to graduating seniors from East Buchanan, Independence, and Jesup School Districts, and awards scholarships to nontraditional and current college students entering or continuing their education in a human health care related field. Due to the rising costs of college tuition, the BCHC Auxiliary Board approved the increase of all scholarships in 2024 by $200, and were able to award seven scholarships this year. The following individuals were awarded a $1,200 scholarship for entering or continuing their education in a human healthcare related field:
Jaden Hellenthal – Jaden is the daughter of Brent and Jennifer Hellenthal. She is a 2024 graduate of East Buchanan School District and will be attending the University of Iowa in their pre-physical therapy program.
Summer Anderson – Summer is the daughter of Andria and Garry Anderson. She is a 2024 graduate of Independence High School and will be attending Hawkeye Community College, and then transfer to the University of Iowa to study psychology or become a child life specialist.
Scout Kohagen – Scout is a 2024 graduate of Jesup High School and will be attending Wartburg College to major in biology and pre-nursing.
Alison Trimble – Alison is the daughter of Cole and Gina Trimble. She is a 2022 graduate of Independence High School, and is currently studying at Iowa State University, majoring in dietetics and minoring in exercise science.
Alyssa Burco – Alyssa is employed as a CNA at Buchanan County Health Center. Alyssa attends Hawkeye Community College and is pursuing her degree in nursing.
Andrea Youngblut – Andrea is employed as an RN at Buchanan County Health Center. Andrea is pursuing a Master of Science in Nursing to become an advanced registered nurse practitioner (ARNP) from Chamberlain College of Nursing.
Hayley Even – Hayley is employed in the Health Information Management Department at Buchanan County Health Center. Hayley attends Hawkeye Community College and is pursuing her degree in nursing.
