Buchanan County Health Center Recognizes Theresa Mueller with The Sunshine Award for Extraordinary Staff
Theresa Mueller, receptionist at BCHC Family Medicine – Jesup, was recently recognized with the BCHC Sunshine Award for Extraordinary Staff. Modeled after The DAISY Award, the Sunshine Award celebrates employees who exemplify the BCHC mission and are known for their compassion, care, and dedication to others.
Selected through a nomination and evaluation process conducted by BCHC’s Sunshine Award Committee, Theresa was recognized for her outstanding contributions to the organization, impacting patients, staff, and guests alike.
Theresa’s nomination read:
“I wanted to nominate Theresa Mueller for the Sunshine award for her compassion, empathy and dedication to service. Theresa was attending a personal appointment at BCHC when she ran into a clinic patient’s daughter. This family member was tearful and upset. Theresa approached her asking what was wrong. The family member let Theresa know that our patient was admitted to the medical floor for comfort care. The family member expressed concern of needing to run errands for her family and feeling guilty leaving her mother alone. Without hesitation Theresa offered to spend her afternoon on her day off sitting with our patient. The daughter returned to our clinic several weeks later expressing such gratitude and appreciation for Theresa’s actions. Her mother passed away peacefully with family at her side. Theresa’s actions that day is such a natural part of her personality. She is selfless and giving. She embodies the qualities needed to work in rural health care. I am so thankful Theresa was able to support our patient that day.”
Established in late 2024 to complement The DAISY Award, which honors excellence in nursing, the Sunshine Award at BCHC was created to recognize the exceptional contributions of non-nursing staff. The award celebrates individuals who make a meaningful impact on patients, colleagues, and the community.
