New Surgeon to Begin in BCHC Specialty Clinic

General Surgery services are expanding at the Buchanan County Health Center Specialty Clinic. Dr. Scott Houghton of Cedar Valley Medical Specialists, Waterloo, will offer general surgery services at the clinic on the first and third Tuesday afternoon each month, beginning Sept. 2. Dr. Houghton is certified by the American Board of Surgery and a member of the American Medical Association. He is a graduate of Creighton University School of Medicine, Omaha, NE and completed his residency in general surgery with the Mayo Foundation, Rochester, MN.
General Surgery is the branch of medicine that deals with operative procedures to correct deformities, repair injuries, and diagnose and cure certain diseases. Among the surgical conditions addressed include:
- Diagnosis and evaluation of abdominal pain
- Ulcers
- Hernias
- Gallbladder disease
- Colon cancer
- Diverticulitis
