BCHC expands primary care provider team by announcing addition of Dr. Jack O’Brien, MD

Buchanan County Health Center is pleased to announce the expansion of primary care services by announcing the addition of Jack O’Brien, MD to the established team of primary care providers at Medical Associates of BCHC and BCHC Family Medicine – Oelwein.  Dr. O’Brien will begin practice at BCHC upon completion of his residency in August of 2022.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. O’Brien and his family to the BCHC family,” commented Wade Weis, CEO.  “We are looking forward to getting to know him and introducing him to our communities as a full-scope primary care physician.  We are confident that he will be an outstanding addition to our medical staff at BCHC.”

Originally from Ottumwa, Dr. O’Brien received his undergrad from Loras College in Dubuque, and attended medical school at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. Dr. O’Brien is currently in his second year of residency at Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines. Specializing in family medicine, Dr. O’Brien’s clinical interests include, but are not limited to, prenatal care, birth control, and taking care of patients of all ages. When reflecting on what was most attractive about joining BCHC, Dr. O’Brien stated that he was impressed by the caring nature of everyone, and looks forward to joining the staff to continue to serve the community with local and quality healthcare services.

“Recruiting physicians to smaller communities like ours is a very competitive process, and hiring Dr. O’Brien is a huge accomplishment for our organization and the communities we serve,” commented Rob Robinson, BCHC Board Chairperson on behalf of the BCHC Board of Trustees.  “Offering high quality primary care to the communities we serve is an important objective of the BCHC Board of Trustees, and the addition of Dr. O’Brien reflects our commitment.”

“Dr. O’Brien will be a great addition to the hospital, and plans to offer some additional services out of our primary care clinics that are currently not being offered,” commented Bill Schmitt, DO.  “He and his family will be a great fit within our community.”

Dr. O’Brien and his wife Alexis, along with their children Rudi (2) and Jax (5 months), and dogs Winnie and Rocky look forward to joining the BCHC community later this summer.  In his spare time, Dr. O’Brien enjoys cycling, hunting, and spending time with his family.
