Frequently Asked Questions

Find the answers to our most common Physical Therapy questions.

Am I required to have a referral from my doctor to receive physical therapy?

You will need a referral for PT services at BCHC, your provider can send it ahead of time or you can bring it with you for your first visit.

What do I bring to my first PT appointment?

If you have a referral for physical therapy from your doctor, please bring that with you.  Please also remember to bring your insurance card(s).  You will need to check in at registration the first visit only, so please allow a few extra minutes.

What are the clinic's hours of operation?

Mon – Fri : 7:00 AM- 5:30 PM
Saturday-Sunday: Closed

What insurance does BCHC PT accept?

BCHC is a provider for most insurance companies, but you may want to call your insurance company to verify.  For questions or to make an appointment at BCHC, you can call 319-332-0851.

What do I wear to my PT appointments?

To ensure the most effective treatment, please wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing and comfortable shoes.

How many visits will I need?

You will be evaluated at your first visit by one of our licensed physical therapists. In most cases, your initial PT will also treat you during subsequent visits. Our physical therapist assistant, works closely alongside our physical therapists to aide in treatment as well. We believe it is important to stay with the same provider during your course of care for best outcomes.

What happens during my first visit?

Upon your first visit, you’ll fill out registration paperwork and provide us with your insurance information.  You’ll discuss your medical history, medications, past procedures/tests, current problems/complaints, pain intensity, what aggravates/eases the problem, how it is impacting your daily functional activities, and goals with therapy.  Your PT will then complete a comprehensive evaluation of your physical functioning. After your first appointment, a treatment plan is then developed to include frequency of visits, home exercise program, patient education, and short-term/long-term goals.

What types of treatments will I receive?

There are dozens of different treatment interventions that our staff uses depending on your diagnosis, pain management, and plan of care. Feel free to ask them at the time of your appointment!  You can look through our providers profiles to see the types of treatments they specialize in.

How long do PT appointments normally last?

This first appointment, as well as your follow up appointments, will last approximately 45 minutes.
