Would you be willing to save a life this summer?
The Buchanan County Health Center Auxiliary and the LifeServe Blood Center will hold an Independence Community Blood Drive on Tuesday, August 19, from noon to 5:30 p.m. in the Therapy & Wellness Center at the Buchanan County Health Center.
The LifeServe Blood Center provides blood to the Buchanan County Health Center, as well as more than 100 community hospitals in Iowa, North Dakota and South Dakota. Some other Iowa communities served include: Waterloo, Waverly, Vinton, West Union, Cresco, Grundy Center, Sumner and Des Moines.
Currently Lifeserve Blood Center is in Critical Need (meaning it has less than a 2 day supply) of the following blood types:
- O Negative
- A Negative
- B Positive
- B Negative
- AB Positive
- AB Negative
Healthy adults who are 16 years or older and weigh at least 120 pounds may donate one pint of whole blood every 56 days. Today, only 38 percent of the US population is eligible to donate blood, but less than 10 percent donate at least once annually.
The Buchanan County Dairy Association is supporting the event by providing soft serve ice cream to everyone who donates. Home-baked cookies will also be provided by the auxiliary. To make an appointment call 1-800-287-4903 or go to www.lifeservebloodcenter.org.
