BCHC Volunteer Receives Statewide Recognition
On September 30th, Independence resident and longtime BCHC Lexington Estate volunteer, Harvey See, was recognized as the 2015 Adult Volunteer of the Year by the Iowa Health Care Association and the Iowa Center for Assisted Living in Des Moines. This prestigious recognition is awarded to an outstanding volunteer assisting in long term and post-acute care within the state of Iowa.
Joining the Senior Companion Program at Buchanan County Health Center in 2012, Harvey has found great enjoyment in visiting with residents of Lexington Estate, volunteering over 100 hours each month.
“I really like mingling with the people. I am often amazed on how positive individuals facing great physical challenges can be. It’s really a perfect job for me,” commented See.
“When Harvey started as a volunteer, he was mostly interested in playing cards. He quickly realized the need for many of the residents to have a companion, and sought those who may not have visitors or family that come to visit often, commented Activities Coordinator, Dianne Hepke. Harvey participates in our daily events and celebrations, even assisting with weekly manicures from time to time! He has won the hearts of staff, families, and residents alike.”
A reception is planned to celebrate Harvey’s accomplishment on Thursday, October 15th at Lexington Estate from 2:00-3:00pm. The public is welcome to attend.
