Medina Named Chief Administrative Officer
The Buchanan County Health Center, Independence, is pleased to announce that Shelby Medina has been named Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). The CAO, a new position for BCHC, is a member of the executive team, who manages a variety of daily operations and reports to the chief executive officer.
Medina joined the organization in July 2012. Her responsibilities now include oversight of wellness, nutritional and therapy services. She is also responsible for employee health, staff education, specialty clinic, human resources and quality assurance.
She said she enjoys her job because of “the opportunity it gives her to interact with staff, providers and the community.”
“Shelby is a knowledgeable leader with great experience and understanding of the changing landscape of healthcare,” said Ed Cooper, interim chief financial officer. “She is an excellent manager who gives her team the tools and vision needed to be successful.”
“I believe the Buchanan County Health Center is an asset to this community,” Medina explained. “For example, the specialty clinic offers a wide range of services to our patients in one convenient location. The wellness center also provides a number of specialized health opportunities not readily available in rural communities of this size. I am also pleased with the quality of care our staff provides to our patients and their families.”
Shelby and her husband, Marco, make their home in Waterloo with their children, son Jamie, a freshman at the University of Dubuque, and daughter Kourtney, a junior at West High School.
